HEAD OFFICE STAFF
Lyn Martins: General Manager
Lyn joined Goodall and Bourne Trust Company in February 1997 to assist the Managing Director and Financial Manager with the acquisition of various Western Cape based home service assurers. She relocated to Cape Town in June 1999 where she took up the position as Policy Services Manager. Amongst other things, Lyn was instrumental in the design and development of the new in-house policy services system as well as the design and successful integration of new funeral policies into the market in which the company operated.
In 2001 she became a Director of the Property and Undertaking companies within the Group and was also promoted to General Manager of the Assurance division.
Lyn holds various secretarial and bookkeeping diplomas and in 2005 successfully completed her Certificate in Medical Law through the University of South Africa .
Andrew Middleton: Property Maintenance Manager
Andrew joined Goodall and Bourne in October 1999 as the Property Maintenance Manager responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Group's properties.
Over time, Andrew became involved with the managing of the fleet of hearses and other company vehicles within the undertaking division of the Group. His responsibilities included ensuring the regular maintenance of the vehicles as well as dealing with all aspects of vehicle licensing and registration. This responsibility eventually ended with the sale of the undertaking division.
Andrew and his small team of maintenance officers are responsible for the day to day maintenance of the company properties as well as assisting with the general maintenance of the various branch offices.
Lorraine Herman : Systems Auditor
Lorraine is an "old hand" at Goodall and Bourne having joined the original Bourne Brothers Funeral Insurers in 1986. She has risen through the ranks starting initially as a branch cashier and then moving into the financial arena where her functions included amongst other things, payroll and debtor and creditor control.
After the acquisition of Bourne Brothers in 1997, Lorraine worked her way through policy services to reach the position of systems auditor where she oversees all aspects of the in-house policy services system. She acquired her Certificate of Proficiency in 2001 and is currently studying a Computer Architecture Certificate part-time through Varsity College .
Lorraine is the general "reservoir of knowledge" around the computer system and offers user support as well as conducting the monthly audit and action procedures, handling agent's commission and various other administrative tasks. "Ask Lorraine " is a commonly heard response to a staff member's problem.
Desirée Phillips: Claims and Branch Administrator
Desirée joined Capeguard in December 1981. The principal business of Capeguard was that of a broker of funeral insurance and related products of which Desirée was responsible for paying over the monthly premiums collected via stop order or through its established agency collection and distribution force to the various underwriters such as Metropolitan, Sanlam, Hollard, etc. She was also relied upon to assist the Manager with the day to day running of the business.
After the acquisition of the brokerage by Goodall and Bourne in 1998, Desirée found herself fulfilling different positions from that of receptionist to bookkeeper. She obtained a basic bookkeeping diploma in 1999 and eventually found her niche in the accounts department where she remained for the next 6 years.
During 2005, Desirée took up the challenging positions of both Claims and Branch Administrator. As a result of these two new positions, she identified the need to further her life insurance knowledge and is currently studying to obtain a Certificate of Proficiency. She is responsible for 14 staff members who report directly to her. Desirée has also been appointed as the company's Health and Safety Representative.
Sandra Sampson : Bookkeeper
Sandra joined Bourne Brothers Funeral Insurers in February 1988 as a bookkeeper preparing manual accounting records. Over the years, she kept abreast with developments in technology in the bookkeeping field and easily adapted to the computerized packages of Pastel Accounting and Pastel Payroll when the time came.
After the acquisition of Bourne Brothers in 1997, Sandra's responsibilities increased to include all bookkeeping aspects of the additional companies now within the Group. She has over the past couple of years been responsible for the accounting functions to balance sheet and complete payroll functions of the Group and is currently studying part-time at Damelin College to obtain her Bookkeeping and Accounting Diplomas.
Heidi Ruiters: Policy Administrator
Heidi joined Bourne Brothers Funeral Insurers in December 1986 to assist in the branches with the Agent collections. In 1990 she was transferred to head office where amongst other duties, she checked the batches of collections for accuracy, captured these batches onto the computer systems and was also responsible for the payment of agent commissions on a monthly basis.
Since the acquisition of Bourne Brothers in 1997, Heidi has gained valuable experience by fulfilling different positions within the Policy Services Department. She was also previously responsible for the claims administration of the group and served on the Claims Committee for a couple of years. Heidi is now responsible for inter alia, ensuring the security of the receipting process is effectively controlled and the accuracy of premium collections by both the agency and branch networks.
Debbie Tillick: Data Capturer
Debbie originally worked as an accounts clerk, fulfilling various accounting duties and general administration tasks for Goodall and Company Undertakers.
After the acquisition of Goodall and Company Undertakers in 1997, Debbie found her niche in the Policy Services Department where her primary responsibility is that of data capturing. She also assists with various other policy related tasks.
Loretta Roubain: Policy Administrator
Loretta originally worked as a clerk, fulfilling various duties including data capture, receipting and new business for the home service assurer Cape of Good Hope Assurance Limited.
After the acquisition of Cape of Good Hope in 1997, Loretta gained valuable experience by fulfilling various positions within the Policy Services Department. Amongst her current duties, Loretta is also responsible for the capture of all new business and serves on the Underwriting Committee.
BRANCH STAFF AND AGENTS
Goodall and Bourne currently has 10 branches, situated mainly in the Western Cape with well trained FAIS approved Business Development Officers manning these branches. The sales force currently consists of approximately 50 agents and collectors spread throughout the Western and Eastern Cape and Gauteng regions. |
